Subject: Please Nominate a Parent Leader for the District Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to build a strong Family Engagement Team at your school! Encourage a few parents at your school to apply for the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) by sharing this link with them to apply online, surveys.familieslearning.org/s3/PAC-Application, or by giving them the attached application. We are eliminating barriers for parents to participate by providing a meal, childcare, and language interpretation if needed. PAC members can choose to attend monthly meetings on Monday evenings or Friday mornings, based on which option is best for them. They will also receive a monthly stipend of $75 when they complete assignments. Deadline to apply is September 30th.

Why is this important to you as a school administrator? It is critical to have informed parents as part of your team to implement effective family engagement strategies focused on student achievement. To help with that effort, we are intentionally integrating the training that parents on the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) receive with the training that your school’s Parent Engagement Lead is receiving. This will help to create a positive school climate around family engagement as well as maintain compliance with all Title 1 documentation. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE:

Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th from 7:45 am - 2:15 pm. The system to schedule conferences is now live and will remain open until Tuesday, October 1st at 12:00 pm.

We ask that parents follow the scheduling timeline that applies to your student listed below:

*Sept. 23-26 - those parents whose students are receiving a "C" or lower in a class be allowed to schedule first
*Sept. 27 - Oct. 1 - Scheduling is open to everyone.


Please go to www.dupontmanual.com and click on the link that says Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Up on the home page, where you will be provided with a list of teachers available on conference day. Next, click a teacher, click a time, then click submit and sign-up (at the bottom of the page).

You will then be prompted to enter your name, email, phone number, and most importantly your student's name. Once finished, please click sign-up now to confirm your conference time.

All Manual teachers will be located in their classrooms. YPAS and YPAS Annex teachers will be located in the Senior Cafeteria at Manual for your convenience. PE and Health Teachers will be located in Room 113.

Written Assessment Tryouts will take place on Monday, September 23rd in the Freshman cafeteria. One test - 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.; two tests - 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Please see Mr. Starling in Room 213 if you are taking three tests.


Students, parents, teachers and anyone from the Manual community are invited to attend a special screening of ANTHROPOCENE: THE HUMAN EPOCH.

From concrete seawalls in China that now cover 60% of the mainland coast, to the biggest terrestrial machines ever built in Germany, to psychedelic potash mines in Russia’s Ural Mountains, to metal festivals in the closed city of Norilsk, to the devastated Great Barrier Reef in Australia and massive marble quarries in Carrara, the filmmakers have traversed the globe using high-end production values and state of the art camera techniques to document the evidence and experience of human planetary domination.

At the intersection of art and science, Anthropocene witnesses, in an experiential and non-didactic sense, a critical moment in geological history bringing a provocative and unforgettable experience of our species’ breadth and impact.
