Background:
The Communications Media Arts Center, located at duPont
Manual--The Magnet High School, was created in 1984. This unique program was
designed to provide Jefferson County students with an outstanding opportunity
to pursue specialized studies in journalism, broadcasting, advertising, graphic
arts, and desktop publishing. This program is the collaborative end result of
an educational task force that included the following members: The Bingham
Foundation, The Courier Journal, WAVE - TV, WHAS - TV/Radio, WLKY - TV, WDRB -
TV, and the Louisville Advertising Club.
Facility:
The Communications Media Arts Center provides professional quality electronic
technology for the study of: Journalism, Computer Graphics, Graphic Arts,
Photography, Radio, and Television Production Desktop Publishing.
Classes:
Communications/Media Arts students complete all general academic,
or state required courses for graduation in four years at Manual. In addition
students may choose courses from these communications areas:

Communications students are
traditionally well-rounded, and often participate in a wide variety of extra
curricular activities that include: Beta Club; S.A.D.D.; National Honor
Society; Baseball; Speech and Debate; Soccer; Football; Volleyball;
Cheerleading; Tennis.
