College Visits (listed under Event Calendar) College 101 Night (March 14, 2012) Scholarships Presentation - Mr. Robinson TCA/ACT Prep Presentation- Mrs. Johnston Having the College Conversation with your Child - Mrs. Medley The College Application Procedures Presentation - Ms. Teague College Application Process Made Easy Letter from PTSA: The College and Career Center is located inside the guidance office and is open to students 8AM until 2PM each school day. It is staffed by parent volunteers from the PTSA who are there to help students find information that might help them make decisions about life after high school. Students are encouraged to visit during their study skills class or lunch. We have marketing materials from hundreds of colleges, and an outstanding reference section including college comparison guides, books on college majors, scholarship guides, how to select colleges, how to get admitted to college, admission essay tips and more. Volunteers can copy any information the student requests from our reference section. Marketing materials can be kept by the student as long as it is not the last copy of something. Volunteers catalog the current scholarship information that is received by Manual, and depending on the scholarship, may have additional information on scholarships than what is on the scholarship link on this website. In addition, there are computers and a printer available for online research. The College and Career Center is also where college representatives meet with prospective students; these visits take place throughout the year but are predominantly in September and October. College rep visits last up to one hour and the schedule is posted in hallway outside guidance office, on this website, in the PTSA e-newsletter, and on school's video announcements. Students must obtain permission from their teacher to attend these visits ahead of time, and may see their counselor for scheduling problems. Attendance of students who have serious interest in a college are highly encouraged. The majority of students attending are seniors, but the visits are open to any student with a serious interest in a particular college. In most cases, the representative visiting will be the person reviewing that student's application and making a recommendation about that student to the college's admission committee. It is a golden opportunity for our students to demonstrate their interest in a college, and gain valuable information about their admission process. Students should do some research ahead of time, so they can ask questions.
