Predators take advantage of internet anonymity to build online relationships with inexperienced young people.

Recognizing Predators

They find kids through social networking, blogs, chat rooms, instant messaging, email, discussion boards, and other websites. They chose kids who have problems, are na´ve, lonely, confused, curious, or rebellious. They use tactics like chatting privately, falttery, and intimidation to manipulate. They listen to and sympathize with kids' problems and also know all the latest music and hobbies likely to interest kids.

Avoid Predators

  • Never download images from an unknown source
  • Tell an adult
  • Choose a neutral screen name
  • Never revealing personal information about yourselves (including age and gender) or your family to anyone online
