SBDM Council at duPont Manual High School

School-based decision-making (SBDM) was mandated by state law in 1990 to promote shared leadership among those who are closest to the students. Membership of each council includes parents, teachers and an administrator of the school. The council has the responsibility to set school policy and make decisions in many areas, including curriculum, staff and student assignment, school schedules, use of school space, instructional practices, student discipline, and extracurricular programming.

School-Based Decision Making Committees

This school year, the SBDM Council will establish standing committees that will hold regular meetings and make recommendations to the council. Teachers, parents, and other relevant stakeholders will serve on these committees. Below is the tentative list of committees, which will likely be finalized at the Sept. 7 SBDM Council meeting.

  • Allocations (budget, facilities, textbooks, scheduling)
  • Curriculum and Assessments (academic content areas, Extended School Services [ESS], technology, communications plan)
  • Instructional Practices (school improvement planning, professional development for educators, school calendar)
  • Magnets (Visual Arts, Communications/Media Arts, Math Science Technology, High School University, Youth Performing Arts School)
  • School Climate (diversity, student recognition, parent involvement, health, charitable campaigns, extracurricular activities)
If you are interested in serving on one of these committees, contact one of your SBDM parent council representatives.
